Diversity Committee

Mount Pleasant Villagers respect the common humanity we share in our community.  Villagers affirm everyone has dignity and value.  We celebrate our differences in age, color, (dis)ability, ethnicity, gender, language, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic circumstances.  We acknowledge that changing attitudes about one another can be a process but is essential to our own and combined empowerment and creativity.  We strive to exchange ideas with curiosity and respect.  We treasure the lifelong health, safety, acceptance, and understanding of one another.

La Diversidad - implica que los miembros de Mt. Pleasant Village respetan la humanidad común que compartimos en nuestra comunidad.  Somos concientes y afirmamos que todos tenemos dignidad y valor. Celebramos nuestras diferencias de edad, color, (dis)capacidad, etnia, género, idioma, origen nacional, raza, religión, orientación sexual y circunstancias socioeconómicas. Reconocemos que cambiar de actitud frente al otro puede ser un proceso, pero es esencial para nuestro mutuo empoderamiento y creatividad . Nos esforzamos por intercambiar ideas con curiosidad y respeto. Valoramos laconstante salud, seguridad, aceptación y comprensión mutua.

The diversity committee develops strategies and designs activities that foster a Village membership as diverse as the neighborhood itself with respect to race, ethnicity, cultural background, economic status, orientation and gender identity/expression. The Village believes that without a directed and continuous commitment to diversity and inclusion, significant growth will not occur.

The committee provides input to the board of directors and other Village committees to foster inclusiveness in Village membership; collaborates with the membership and communications committees to develop outreach and promotional materials that reflect significant diverse populations in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood; and conducts membership outreach programs/activities to reach the identified populations.  The committee plans and implements programs that are inclusive of or specifically designed for diverse neighbors, and conversely, and explores opportunities for the Village/Villagers to act as resources, collaborators, and participants with other Mount Pleasant organizations as resources on diversity. The committee explicitly works to bring programs on racial justice and equity to the larger Village.
